Perfect Hosts

“Stayed last weekend at Carradales and our visit was without fault. Maurice and Steve are the perfect hosts and did everything they could to make our visit memorable. The rooms were immaculate and the facilities second to none. We often visit Carradale and Carradales will be our place of choice to stay from now on. Breakfast was exceptional and our only regret is that we didn’t get to sample the evening meals because we were attending an event. Anyone visiting Carradale should look no further than Carradales for a comfortable, elegant and enjoyable stay.”

Well Deserved 5 Stars for this guest house

“We spent a thoroughly enjoyable two nights here and this was down to the great care the owners put into looking after their guests. Maurice and Steve greeted us on arrival and showed us to our beautifully decorated room. The ensuite was spacious, excellent powerful shower and lovely roll top bath (which I made ample use of). Everything was immaculately clean and well presented – and the bed was so comfy, best night’s rest we have had for a long time! There were lots of nice touches around the guest house, telescope for astronomers, interesting Victorian pieces, books etc Steve, who takes care of feeding their guests, certainly knows his craft. Both of us are vegetarian, so we’re used to making do in many places but Steve was having none of it : ) He took great pains to make sure we got exactly what we like for breakfast – plenty of fresh fruit, yoghurt, juice, cereal and poached eggs done to perfection! We stayed there for our evening meal – Steve took the time to find out what we would enjoy so it was almost like having our own personal chef – I’m not very adventurous with food yet I loved every course. We were very happily surprised at the bill for our time there. I’ve been in many establishments which charged way more but did not come anywhere close to the service Maurice and Steve provided. They were attentive without being intrusive, friendly and informative about the area and very clearly complement each other in their business. The next time we’re in Carradale this will definitely be our first choice.”

Delightful

“My wife and a friend were asking the Kintyre way, whilst I indulged in some golf and the occasional walk. We stayed two nights at Carradale guest house. Beautifully renovated, with elegance and a classy feel to the house. Maurice and Steve are wonderful hosts, and genuinely very nice people. This is a classy retreat, but not overbearing in any respect. Steve provides some excellent food, all served in a relaxed manner.  Spoil yourself, and stay here. You won’t be disappointed.”

Peace, Quiet, Joy and Great Food

“We have just returned from a 3 night stay at Carradales. The rooms are beautifully set out and each one is different. The place is peaceful and Maurice and Steve are welcoming and kind hosts. The dinner menu is small but seasonal and beautifully cooked and the wine choice is extensive but reasonable priced. Lovely sitting and dining room where you can chill out or enjoy a drink. In the village is a couple of pubs and there are many historical places to visit as well as some stunning scenery and great walks. Highly recommended.”

An Unexpected Gem

“Just fabulous – Maurice and Steve are great hosts and we received such a warm welcome when we arrived we felt instantly at home. They have thought of everything – beds were incredibly comfortable, the furniture was stylish, spotlessly clean everywhere, duvets as light as feathers, amazing lighting, bathroom facilities top notch. Sitting in the lounge enjoying pre-dinner drinks in front of a log fire was perfect. Steve cooks with local, fresh ingredients wherever possible and the dishes are fantastic, we wished we could have stayed longer than the two nights.”

Lovely Return Visit

This was a return visit for four nights to this lovingly restored licensed guest house in the village of Carradale. It followed a wonderful five night stay during the summer, after which, we couldn’t wait to return. We were warmly greeted on our arrival, like old friends, by owners Maurice and Steve, and treated to coffee and homemade shortbread in the guest lounge. Our room was beautifully appointed, even providing dressing gowns and slippers!

Steve is a professional chef, and the food was just a delight. The breakfasts and dinners were full of flavour, colour and textures; nothing was too much trouble. We particularly liked the fact that ingredients were locally sourced, and that dishes served were appropriate to the season. Each evening, after dinner, we sat in the guest lounge in front of a roaring log fire. Perfect.

This is a lovely place to stay and dine, and an ideal base from which to explore beautiful Kintyre. I’d highly recommend it.

Great Food and Atmosphere

“With no food being served at the run down Carradale hotel we took to phoning local restaurants in the area. The owners of Carradales were very helpful and were able to offer an excellent array of food and wine/beer for our party of 7 – stunning house which has been refurbished to a very high standard. Very welcoming owners, attentive to our needs. Well worth a visit if staying or dinning in the area, however make sure to phone in advance to avoid disappointment.”

Fabulous Experience

“Once in a while, you come across a place which is quite exceptional. Carradales Luxury Guest House, in the pretty village of Carradale on the Kintyre peninsula, is just that! From the warmth of Steve and Maurice’s welcome, to the beautifully appointed bedroom with lovely views of the surrounding countryside, the wonderful food created by professional chef Steve and the stylish ambiance of this restored guest house, Carradales is a delight.

The house, which has many fine period features, has four bedrooms, each lovingly designed, furnished and decorated, as well as a large, beautiful guest lounge. It feels like a home from home. Dressing gowns and slippers are provided!

It’s also situated in a pretty garden which guests can use for their relaxation.

We stayed for five nights, and could have happily have stayed longer. Steve and Maurice are marvellous hosts. There’s nothing they need to be taught about hospitality. For them, it comes naturally.

We ate breakfast and dinner here, and loved it all. The flavours simply bounced off the plates. The menu was perfectly balanced. Starters included a different freshly made soup each day with a different homemade bread. Mains included a Highland beef casserole cooked in red wine, and baked salmon in a dill and lemon crust. The dessert included a fabulous Kintyre gin and lemon mousse with shortbread. There are often specials, and Steve is more than happy to discuss any specific dishes you would like him to make. For us, he made a wonderful fish pie, and a chocolate cake cherry trifle for afters. What a treat!

There is also a good and varied wine list. We tried four different wines, and thoroughly enjoyed them all. They also stock Kintyre Gin which we loved, especially their new pink gin.

Breakfast was a feast each morning. Everything was beautifully made and presented; the porridge was a triumph, and the smoked haddock with poached eggs, sublime.

All in all, this was a terrific experience. I’d highly recommend it whether you’re looking for a place to stay, or a place for dinner, or both! We’re already very much looking forward to a return visit.”

Superb

“Fabulous meal served up by interesting, warm and friendly people. Exceptional inventiveness displayed by Peter, the chef. When we raved over the ice cream, Peter supplied us with a pint bottle of the milk from the Wee Dairy (four cows) that was used to make it. Maurice then took us on a tour of the hotel, showing us the fabulous rooms and a photo album of the restoration process. They have spent a lot of money on this place and it shows.

It will probably be a pricey stay, but you couldn’t do better. And for an evening meal, you certainly can’t do better in Carradale, and probably not anywhere else in Kintyre.”

Exceptional Gem

“Carradales is an exceptional gem in western Scotland along the “long and winding road” through Kintyre on your way to Campbeltown. Hosts Maurice and Steve do everything in their power to make you feel welcome in this recently-renovated and incredibly luxurious B&B that offers finer accommodations than many 5-Star luxury hotels. If you’re a golfer, Carradales is a short drive from the world famous Machrihanish golf course and the equally challenging but lesser known Carradale course. Steve is an amazing chef. Breakfast is included (try the “Full Scottish”) and a sumptuous dinner is an extra option. Carradales is perfection. Plan on wanting to stay longer than you’ve booked.”

Outstanding

“I visited Carradales as a group of 7 for an evening meal as a last minute thing. We were staying locally and were unable to source anywhere to eat. Having been given the phone number for Carradales, I called and was invited along where The owners fell over themselves to accommodate us.

We effectively got “pot luck” but, given the quality of the place, that pot luck consisted of fresh salmon, quails eggs, prawns and other locally sourced, delicious and beautifully presented food.

We were made to feel welcome and the owners worked hard to ensure we had a pleasant meal. I have to say that we were all bowled over by the welcome we got and the quality of food and service was outstanding.

I can do nothing else than rate Carradales as highly as possible and would recommend that it is easily worth the trip off the beaten track.”

Maurice’s experience in hospitality and Steve’s CV as a chef shone through in everything they delivered. The seafood starter of smoked salmon and prawns was a delight and the mushrooms on ciabatta really tasty. The mains of slow cooked beef and salmon hit the mark perfectly, leaving just enough room to squeeze in a dessert, the highlight of which had to be the chocolate Bakewell tart – moist with a lovely balance between the sweet smooth chocolate sauce and the lemon curd lining the pastry.
